Nintendo NES Classic Edition Sells Out Fast, Scalpers Quadruple Retail Price

NES Classic 1
If you were dead set on having a bit of officially-sanctioned Nintendo gaming nostalgia in your hands, your chances of scoring the NES Classic Edition at retail price are quickly dwindling. The retro gaming console went on sale today (retailers did not offer pre-orders) and is quickly selling out online.

Taking a quick peek online, Target, Walmart, Toys R Us, Best Buy, Gamestop and B&H Photo are all sold out of the NES Classic Edition. Brick and mortar stores that had stock were quickly depleted. Perhaps the last hope for people that would like to score the console at retail price any time soon is Amazon. The online retail giant will open orders for the console today at 5PM EST. If you’re lucky, you just might be able to score the NES Classic Edition and take a trip down memory lane with games like Super Mario Bros. and Excitebike.

NES Classic 2

For those of you that come up empty handed, you could always turn to eBay. However, resellers are already taking advantage of the limited supply of consoles with extreme markups. The NES Classic Edition retails for $59.99, but recently completed auctions for the console show it selling for $200 to $250.

The NES Classic Edition is a pint-sized clone of the original Nintendo Entertainment System. It comes with a single wired controller and connects to your modern HDTV with an HDMI cable. The console also ships with the following 30 games:

  • Balloon Fight
  • Bubble Bobble
  • Castlevania
  • Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
  • Donkey Kong
  • Donkey Kong Jr.
  • Double Dragon II: The Revenge
  • Dr. Mario
  • Excitebike
  • FINAL FANTASY
  • Galaga
  • GHOSTS'N GOBLINS
  • GRADIUS
  • Ice Climber
  • Kid Icarus
  • Kirby's Adventure
  • Mario Bros.
  • MEGA MAN 2
  • Metroid
  • NINJA GAIDEN
  • PAC-MAN
  • Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream
  • StarTropics
  • SUPER C
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros. 2
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • TECMO BOWL
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

An additional licensed controller can be purchased for $9.99. For those that don’t want to be restricted by a wired controller (this isn’t 1985, after all), Nyko is selling the Miniboss for NES Classic Edition for $19.99. This gives you complete wireless freedom from the console while maintaining the look and feel of the classic controller.
