MSI Ships Core i5-Powered GX640 15.4" Gaming Notebook

If you're in the market for a new gaming notebook, you're in an interesting spot. On one hand, the abundance of new options is great for those who love to do their research and price shop. If you're drowning in those options, however, we sympathize with you. MSI has been serving up value-packed multimedia and gaming laptops for as long as we can remember, and the new GX640 is just another standout in the long list of great options.

The 15.4" GX640 is ideal for those who don't want to haul around a large 17" machine, yet it still has enough horsepower to crank through modern gaming titles and multimedia files. It's loaded with the new Core i5-430M CPU, Windows 7 Home Premium, a 1680x1050 resolution, ATI's Radeon HD 5850 GPU (1GB of GDDR5 memory), 4GB of DDR3 memory, a 500GB SATA HDD (7200RPM) and 802.11a/g/n Wi-Fi. There's also Bluetooth, a 9-cell battery, 2.0MP webcam, VGA/HDMI outputs, two USB 2.0 ports, an Ethernet socket, 4-in-1 card reader, Super-Multi optical drive and a 3-year warranty.

The whole machine weighs just 6.3lbs., which isn't that bad for a Core i5-equipped gaming rig. It's also housed in a brushed aluminum case with a wicked black/red paint job,and of course it supports DirectX 11. The GX640 is reasonably priced (in our opinion) at $1099.99, and it's available to order now from Amazon. It will be ready for order on Newegg later in the month.
