MSI GE40 Gaming Laptop Weighs 4.4 Pounds, Wields Haswell, Nvidia GeForce GTX 760M GPU

Image popupMobile gaming has become a bit of a misnomer as of late. You either have to sacrifice performance and settle for mostly casual gaming (tablet PCs) or give up a bit of portability to accommodate high-end hardware (gaming laptops and desktop replacements). Looking to cut down on the amount of compromises a mobile gamer has to make, MSI today announced its new GE40, a gaming laptop that measures less than 1-inch thick and weighs just 4.4 pounds.

That's not quite Ultrabook territory, but for a full fledged gaming laptop, 4.4 pounds is nothing to be ashamed of. What you get in return is a potent setup consisting of 14-inch HD display (1600x900), Intel Core i7 4702MQ processor (Haswell), NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760M graphics, 128GB mSATA + 750GB HDD (GE40 2OC-009US) or 750GB HDD (GE40 2OC-008US), 8GB of DDR3-1600 memory, DVD burner (GE40 2OC-008US only), GbE LAN, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, SD card reader, built-in headset amp, two USB 3.0 ports, a single USB 2.0 port, HDMI output, 720p HD webcam, 6-cell battery, and Windows 8.

"The GE40 was designed for mobile gamers seeking the best in gaming performance but not wanting to carry around larger laptops," said Andy Tung, vice president of sales for MSI US. "Even though the GE40 is exceptionally light and nimble, it is still packed with high-performance components worthy of a desktop replacement unit."

It's also relatively affordable for a gaming laptop. The GE40 2OC-009US carries an MSRP of $1,400 and the GE40 2OC-008US is priced at $1,300. Both feature a full aluminum body with a psychedelic dragon eye backlit design on the lid.
