Motorola Brings The RAZR Back With Droid RAZR LTE Smartphone
Google and Samsung have a play date later this evening, but Motorola's the one kicking the Android action into high gear this week with the introduction of... another RAZR? That's right, the phone that redefined what a flip phone could be is back, at least, in name + spirit. The Droid RAZR is the latest in the Droid line, with Motorola (whom Google purchased, remember that?) dishing out an insanely thin new phone with drool-worthy specifications.
It's easily the world's thinnest LTE smartphone at just 7.1mm, which is even slimmer than the Galaxy S II that the Android world has raved about for months. Not surprisingly, it will be available exclusively on Verizon Wireless, and being that it's thin enough to crack with a strong tug, there's a KEVLAR fiber back and Gorilla Glass on the front. Inside, you'll find a 1.2GHz CPU, LTE module, Wi-Fi, 4.3" Super AMOLED Advanced display (qHD resolution!), Android Market access, and yes, it's the first smartphone capable of streaming movies and TV shows through Netflix with up to HD resolution.
There's even a new MotoCast app, which lets you stream or download your music, pictures and more from your PC to your phone. The Smart Actions app helps automate everyday tasks and optimizes battery efficiency by letting customers create rules, such as automatically setting the phone to vibrate during work hours or dimming the display at a specific battery level. The revolutionary webtop application allows customers to combine the device with separately sold accessories, like the Lapdock 100 or HD Station, unleashing the power to edit documents and browse the Web with a full Firefox browser on a larger screen – all while charging the device.
What's strange is that Ice Cream Sandwich isn't onboard. It's shipping with Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread), but perhaps it'll be updated in due time. There's 1GB of RAM, an 8MP rear camera, 1080p movie capture, front-facing HD camera, a water-repellent nanocoating, Bluetooth 4.0, 16GB of onboard memory, an additional 16GB via microSD, and a 1780mAh battery. It'll ship in early November for for $299.99 with a new two-year customer agreement at all Verizon Wireless Communications Stores and online.
