Microsoft Warns Not To Install This Windows 10 Update Due To A Critical Security Bug
That update was designed to fix a previous issue that causes a black screen to be displayed at startup during the first sign-in after installing an update. The update also addressed an issue with Bluetooth audio profiles that was known to cause higher power consumption for devices in Standby connected mode.
The issue with the Windows Defender ATP service stopping affects the client version of Windows mentioned before and Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019. It also impacts Windows Server version 1809 of Windows Server 2019. Microsoft says that it is working on a resolution to the issue and expects that it will be available in mid-November. With Microsoft's track record on fixes for issues other patches caused over the last several months, many will wonder what the mid-November patch will break next.
As of now, there is no workaround for the issue. The software giant did say that some Windows 10 users may receive a 0xc0000409 error in Event Viewer on MsSense.exe. Users of impacted systems who have installed the KB4520062 Cumulative Update can just uninstall the update. Microsoft says that the update can be removed by selecting View Installed Updates in the Programs and Features control panel. After users find the KB4520062 update, they can right-click it to uninstall, and then confirm they want to uninstall it and click yes to restart the device.
