LG Refreshes Low Cost L Series Smartphones with Three New Models Running Android 4.4 KitKat
LG says it plans to unveil its third generation of L Series smartphones at Mobile World Congress (MWC). In keeping with what made these devices popular for LG in overseas markets, the third generation refresh will retain a minimal design philosophy, but with upgraded hardware, user interface features, and the latest version of Google's open source operating system, Android 4.4 KitKat.
All three offerings -- L40, L70, and L90 -- come constructed with a metallic frame and Quick Window smart cover that's available in three "vibrant" color options. It's actually the first cover from LG to be designed specifically for a mid-range smartphone. Beyond offering protection from nicks and scratches, the cover also boasts a see-through window so users can see who's calling or check the time without opening it up.
The L40 features a 3.5-inch (480x320) display powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor. It also has 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, 3MP rear-facing camera, and either a 1,700mAh or removable 1,540mAh battery, depending on market. LG's L70 is similarly spec'd, but bigger with a 4.5-inch display (800x400). It also has more RAM (1GB), either an 8MP or 5MP rear-facing camera (depending on market), and a removable 2,100mAh battery.
Finally, the L90 is the biggest of them all with a 4.7-inch qHD display (960x540). Like the other two smartphones, it too has a 1.2GHz dual-core processor. This is flanked by 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, 1.3MP front-facing camera, 8MP rear-facing camera, and 2,540mAh removable battery.
All three phones lack a 4G LTE radio, presumably to keep the price down. As such, LG is hoping they'll prove to be strong volume drivers in 3G markets.
