HTC’s One A9 Pricing See-Saw Rebounds With Limited Time Return To $399

HTC One A9 Hero
We’re beginning to wonder if HTC execs are asleep at the wheel as hits every pothole and speed bump in the road ahead at full speed. The company first came under fire for allegedly ripping off the design of the iPhone 6/iPhone 6s with its new One A9 smartphone — a claim that it shrugged off, citing that it was in fact the victim of Apple’s Xerox machines.

Next, the company caught heat for introducing the One A9 at a price tag of $399, only to jack the price up to $499 earlier this month. And if that wasn’t enough, the company stated earlier this week that shipments of the smartphone have been delayed, and customers that ordered red and gold variants won’t have their smartphones ship until later this month. If you were hoping to score a Verizon Wireless model, good luck — it won’t ship until 2016, if at all.

Today, HTC is once again offering the One A9 at the $399 price. HTC calls this promotion “A sleigh-load of savings,” giving customers up to 30 percent off the price of an HTC device when you spend at least $650. If you spend at least $400, you’ll receive a 20 percent discount, and orders that top $200 will receive a 15% discount.

Since the One A9 is currently back to its everyday price of $499, the 20 percent discount brings the smartphone back to its entry price point of $399. You’ll have to go all the way through the checkout process to see the $399 price in your cart, so don’t be alarmed if you initially see $499 with no sign of a discount.

Unfortunately, the promotion is scheduled to end tonight at 11:59PM PST, so you had better get an order in quickly if you’re at all interested in the One A9. With that being said, we have a little bit of advice for HTC: forget the promotions and just stick with $399 as the everyday price for the One A9. At $499, it’s no bargain, and you could make the case that $399 isn’t exactly a starter for many people. After all, $399 will get you an ASUS ZenFone 2 Deluxe Special Edition with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage.
