Hewlett-Packard's HP 7 Plus Is A Quad Core Android Tablet For Cheapskates, Only Costs $100

Remember when Hewlett-Packard tried to compete in premium tablet category? It didn't work out so well - not only did the company's TouchPad tumble in price, it was such a colossal flop that it sent webOS into a tailspin, which is too bad because we had high hopes of what HP could do with it after acquiring Palm. Fast forward to today and HP is still making tablets, but its newest model -- the HP 7 Plus -- takes aim at budget buyers.

Not only does it take aim at penny pinchers, it hits them square in the face with a $99.99 price tag. What can you possibly get for a C-note from a name brand manufacturer? A quad-core foundation, to start with -- the HP 7 Plus totes an ARM Cortex A7 quad-core chip clocked at 1GHz with a Power VR SGX544MP2 GPU and 1GB of RAM.

It's not going to knock your socks off, but again, this thing only costs a Benjamin. Plus, that's more than enough power to push pixels around on a 7-inch In-Plane Switching (IPS) display with a 1024x600 display.

Rounding out the spec sheet are tidbits like 8GB of built-in storage, a microSD card slot with support for memory cards up to 32GB, 2-megapixel rear-facing camera, 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera, 3.5mm headphone jack, micro USB 2.0 port, built-in mono speaker, 2800mAh battery that's supposed to last up to 5 hours and 30 minutes, and Android 4.4.2 Jelly Bean.

The HP 7 Plus measures 7.58 inches (W) by 4.8 inches (D) by 0.32 inches (H) and weighs 0.65 pounds. It also comes with a 1-year limited hardware warranty and 30 days of limited software support. All in all, not too shabby for a basic and inexpensive Android tablet. If you're intrigued, you can order one now direct from HP.
