GoPro Unleashes The HERO4 Action Video Camer, Available October 5th

GoPro has earned a reputation as the go-to brand when you need a camera for recording action on the go, but if you thought the company planned to rest on its past success, think again. Today sees the unveiling of GoPro's HERO4, the title given to the company's highest performance line of capture devices it has ever made.

The HERO4 comes in two editions -- HERO4 Black for $499 and HERO4 Silver for $399 (both are MSRPs). Starting with the more expensive device, the HERO4 Black edition delivers twice the performance of its best-selling predecessor and has been upgraded to capture 4K Ultra HD video at 30 frames per second, 2.7K video at 50fps, and Full HD 1080p video at 120fps -- fast enough to allow for slow motion effects.

It also boasts improved image quality and can shoot 12-megapixel photos at speeds up to 30fps, better low light performance, the ability to highlight moment tagging, and an improved user interface that makes it easier to discover and access key features and controls.

As for the HERO4 Silver, it offers the same professional image quality as the Black model and can also shoot 12-megapixel photos at speeds up to 30fps, but has fewer high-performance video capture modes -- it can record 1080p at 60fps and 720p at 120fps. One thing that's unique to the Silver edition is a built-in touch display.

"For the past twelve years, our passion has been to make it easy for people to self-capture jaw dropping, professional quality footage of themselves engaged in their favorite activities," said GoPro Founder and CEO, Nicholas Woodman. "That passion led us to embark on our most ambitious design and engineering effort ever, and the result is nothing short of the ultimate GoPro—the HERO4 Black. We can't wait to see what the world captures with it."

GoPro says the HERO4 Black and HERO4 Silver will both be available October 5th.
