Garmin nuvifone G60 Shipping On AT&T This Sunday For $299.99

Wow, this one has been a long, long, long time coming. The original nüvifone was originally introduced in early 2008, long before Android had a chance at fame and before the iPhone has risen to stardom in the way that it has. In short, the Garmin-developed smartphone looked to be a real competitor, and the proprietary navigating software was its differentiating factor.

Here it is, in the latter half of 2009, and Americans are still waiting on what has become the Garmin-Asus nüvifone G60. After an incredibly long and painful wait, those who were interested in such a phone--and held off all this while--will be able to indulge on October 4th. Starting Sunday, prospective AT&T customers (and current customers, of course) will be able to pick up the smartphone at AT&T retail stores, and with it will come a 3.2MP camera (with AutoFocus), integrated GPS for geotagging and navigating, full 3G support, a touch-screen virtual keyboard with predictive text, a full HTML browser, Ciao! (which lets you share your location with other friends), a WQVGA display, 4GB of onboard storage (2GB are used for maps), a microSD expansion slot, MP3 player, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 2.5mm headphone jack and a rechargeable battery good for up to 4 hours of talking.

Of course, the biggest selling point here is the tried-and-true Garmin navigation. You should get the same NAV experience here as you would on any normal Garmin PND, and it also supports multitasking so you can take a call without losing your route. It'll be available on October 4th for $299.99 with a two-year AT&T agreement and after a $100 mail-in rebate.

nüvifone G60 is the only phone to fully-integrate the world’s best-selling GPS navigator with voice, data and mobile web. Because GPS is integrated and not just an application, nüvifone allows you to do more, such as talk on the phone while continuing to navigate. With nüvifone, you can always know where you are and where you’re going. It provides the easiest-to-use, most advanced and intuitive navigation experience of any phone currently available.
