Galaxy S8 And S8+ Preorders From Leaked Target Flyer Show Bundle With Free $100 Gift Card, Gear VR
A new flagship smartphone from Samsung is an exciting thing in and of itself. However, it looks like Samsung's retail partners will have some nifty promotions tied to the South Korean handset maker's upcoming Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ launch. Target, for example, is going to offer a $100 gift card and a free Samsung Gear VR headset to anyone who pre-orders one of Samsung's upcoming flagships.
The promotion appears in a leaked ad preview from Target's weekly catalog covering deals valid from April 2 to April 8. Unfortunately, the original source was asked by (and complied with) Target to remove the ad scan, but as we often say, there are no mulligans on the Internet.
Here is the relevant part of the ad preview:
As you can see from the ad, the free Gear VR headset is the new iteration that comes with a controller. Samsung's compatibility list includes the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, and Galaxy Note 5. Presumably the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will also be compatible.
There is some fine print for Target's promotion. To qualify for the gift card and Gear VR headset, pre-orders will be tied to AT&T's Next program, Sprint's 24-month installment plan, or Verizon's Device Payment program.
The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are expected to arrive on the U.S. market wielding Qualcomm's fancy new Snapdragon 835 SoC flanked by 4GB of RAM. Samsung's phones will also have 64GB of onboard storage and a microSD slot. The Galaxy S8+ will reportedly have a screen resolution of 3200x1800 (QHD+) and its smaller Galaxy S8 sibling will stick to the QHD (2560x1440) resolution.
For you iOS folks who are more interested in the iPhone 7, Target has a deal for you as well. If you upgrade to an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus at Target, you'll receive a $300 gift card with qualified activation.
