Foxconn Chief Speaks Out Against Curved Smartphones
"People are talking about, wow, displays that can transform, but they forget that you have to be able to use these devices," Gou said at Foxconn's shareholder meeting, according to PCWorld.
It's interesting that Gou would have anything all to say on the matter, though it could be taken as a hint that curved displays aren't on Apple's radar, especially with its upcoming iPhone 6 line. Bear in mind that Foxconn is the biggest manufacturer of Apple products, including the iPhone.
Alternately, he just might not be a fan of the technology after talking it over with Samsung and LG.
"They explained that if the men want to put a large phone into their jeans, it has to be able to fit their buttocks," Gou said. "This is a company ranked worldwide number 1, number 2 in displays, and their marketing is saying this."
In terms of usability, Gou also dismissed the notion that curved smartphones are easier to use. According to Gou, people spend more time looking at their phones than holding them up to their heads, and with a curved screen, "you won't be able to see the display clearly."
