Eye-Fi Unveils 4GB Card with Raw Image Support

Eye-Fi’s latest Eye-Fi Pro card is sure to catch the eye of digital camera users. Like other Eye-Fi cards, this new wireless SDHC memory card lets you upload images straight from your camera to your computer or to the Web automatically. What’s unique about this new card is that it includes support for RAW image files as well as peer-to-peer connectivity for a direct connection between the camera and a computer, no router or Internet connection is required.

In addition to announcing a new card, Eye-Fi also announced that all Eye-Fi card users will now be able to select which photos or videos they want to wirelessly transfer from their camera to their computer or to the Web using a new Selective Transfer feature. This feature works with a camera’s protect or lock feature in the camera menu to help users select which files to wirelessly upload. Using this feature, any protected photo or video will be uploaded. All photos and videos will remain on the memory card even after uploading until the user deletes them. Selective Transfer is a free new feature that is available for all Eye-Fi card users through the Eye-Fi Manager.

"People are engaged in photography at a deeper level than ever before. They have moved from being casual photographers to passionate enthusiasts, shooting in RAW for more extensive editing, adding geotags for a richer experience or using an online gallery to share their work," said Jef Holove, CEO of Eye-Fi. "These people are looking for tools that advance the art of photography and make it more efficient - and the Eye-Fi Pro does both."

Like the Eye-Fi Explore Video, the new Eye-Fi Pro can automatically upload images and videos to more than 25 online photo and video sharing sites. When users are away from home, the cards can also connect via more than 10,000 Wayport and open hotspots. In addition, the Eye-Fi Pro can geotag photos with location information about where the images were taken.

The Eye-Fi Pro 4GB card is now available for an MSRP of $149.
