Dual-Screen YotaPhone Launching in December, Rocks Android and Two 4.3-Inch Displays
"Two screens this phone has, buy it you will." If we were in charge of YotaPhone's marketing, that 's the tagline we'd use, provided Disney didn't give us grief for imitating the other Yoda. Either way, Russian company Yota Devices is offering up something interesting and unique here. In an attempt to merge the best of both worlds, the front of the YotaPhone sports a 4.3-inch 1280x720 LCD capacitive mulit-touch display for smartphone functions, and the backside wields a 4.3-inch 640x360 electronic paper display with a capacitive touch zone below.
The electronic paper display is always on and ready for displaying eBooks. It can also be used to see notices, emails, tweets, and other information in real time without picking up or even activating the phone, Yota Devices explains. Since it's an eInk display, leaving it on all the time won't have much effect on battery life. In fact, Yota Devices says that even if the battery is empty, the most recent information remains visible. Pretty nifty.
Other features include a dual-core 1.7GHz Krait processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB eMMC storage, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, 1MP front-facing camera, 13MP rear-facing camera with autofocus and LED flash, 4G LTE, 1800mAh battery, and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
There are better spec'd smartphones out there, though the overall feature-set doesn't look too shabby. In addition, this looks like a promising device for people who may not want to invest in both a smartphone and a dedicated eBook reader. They can get both in a single device, provided they're content reading 50 Shades of Grey and other books on a 4.3-inch display.
