Confirmed: Sony PlayStation 4 Will Allow Used Game Discs
No worries though. Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony's Worldwide Studios for Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., confirmed to Eurogamer that the PS4 will not block used games.
Yoshida was a bit cagey when first presented with the question. "Do you want us to do that?," he asked Eurogamer. Naturally the answer was no. He then consulted with a translator for a refresher on Sony's official stance.
"[Consumers] purchase physical form, they want to use it everywhere, right? So that's my expectation," Yoshida said. "So, used games can play on PS4. How is that?"
That's fantastic, if not expected, but there was always that nagging feeling of doubt. Now that we know the PS4 will play used games, it seems even more likely that Microsoft will retain the same ability when it launches its Xbox 720 later this year. GameStop and company can commence celebrating.
