Thanos is a bad, bad man. Or maybe he is just misunderstood. By now we all know how Avengers: Infinity War ended, and I expect this topic to be fully explored in
Avengers: Endgame, which is out now and releases more broadly tomorrow. I haven't seen it, and even if I had, I'd refrain from posting spoilers. However, as it pertains to gaming, you can take the fight to Thanos in
Fortnite with the latest
Endgame limited time mode (LTM).
"Thanos and his Chitauri are invading the Fortnite Battle Royale island searching for the six Infinity Stones. It’s up to you to acquire the Avengers: Endgame items scattered throughout the map, and take the fight to him," Epic Games explains.
Should you decide to try and stop Thanos and his Chitauri aliens from claiming all six Infinity Stones, you and a team of heroes will respawn when eliminated until you're either successful, or you fail by allowing the enemy team to find all of the stones first.
Heroes also are able to scrounge around for some nifty weapons, including Thor's Stormbreaker Axe, Captain America's Shield, and Hawkeye's Bow. It's a rather neat twist, and is completely different from the solo Battle Royale mode that comprised the Thanos LTM from last year.
You don't have to play as Team Hero, either. If you decide the join Thanos and the Chitauri aliens, there is a different set of perks. For example, the first person to find an Infinity Stone assumes the role of Thanos, until killed. He's a tough dude—Thanos packs a mean punch, has a destructive beam attack, and can jump high into the air and then smash anything in his way on the way down.
Recovering Infinity Stones grows his power in specific ways, too. They include:
- Reality Stone (Red): Heath & Shields doubled (1000->2000)
- Soul Stone (Orange): Siphon activated (grants Thanos shields only)
- Mind Stone (Yellow): Jump height doubled
- Space Stone (Blue): Ground Pound AOE size tripled, damage x6
- Time Stone (Green): Big knockback added to each hit, damage x3
- Power Stone (Purple): Laser damage x6
As always, Fornite is free to play, though of course there are in-game purchases players can make.
"Pop by the store and you’ll be able to buy the first of two Marvel sets: the Black Widow Outfit plus Widow’s Pack, Widow’s Bite Pickaxe and Widow’s Pirouette Emote! The second Outfit set arrives early next week," Epic Games says.
Beyond the Avengers crossover, the latest v8.50 patch brings with it a whole bunch of bug fixes and general improvements to gameplay. For example, the developers squashed a bug that was preventing vehicles from getting impulsed away from the Reboot Van, and also resolved an issue that messed with the the correct amount of Survival XP being granted after games. The missing XP is now being gifted to players as compensation.
