ATI Takes XGI Employeees, Not Company
Despite the rumors, ATI has not bought out graphics card vendor XGI. However, ATI has hired away a significant number of XGI exmployees from the company's Santa Clara location. In addition, ATI has purchases XGI's partner company Microsynergy. With NVIDIA having purchased ULI and ATI now having plenty of ex-XGI employees, it should be interesting to see how these events shape the GPU's coming down the road.
Speculation was fuelled by XGI's decision to move away from desktop graphics and focus on embedded applications instead. It's highly likely, then, that ATI's new US hires were formerly working on desktop products at XGI.
