ASUS Ships Taichi 31 Windows 8 Ultrabook with Dual 13-Inch Displays
One of the companies I like keeping an eye on at any given major conference is ASUS. Without fail, the company always seems to manage to show-off products that both get people talking, and have some serious questionability about their potential success. At CES this past January, one such product touted was the company's "Taichi", an Ultrabook with not one, but two displays.
Interestingly, ASUS announced its first Taichi model this past fall, although it didn't get too much coverage until a big unveil at CES. That notebook, Taichi 21, comes in at 11.6-inches, while this new model, Taichi 31, bumps that up to 13.3-inches. Aside from that, we're not too sure if that's the only way the notebooks different. ASUS' press release is quite devoid of information, although everything it does talk about aligns perfectly with the Taichi 21.
That all being the case, it's no surprise that pricing has not yet been revealed. Currently, the Taichi 21 sells for about ~$1500 at multiple etailers, so we would expect that the Taichi 31 would increase that by at least $200 - it's not only one display that's being given the boost, after all.
With this follow-up, we can assume that the original Taichi model hasn't sold too poorly. A notebook with dual screens like this can certainly have its uses, but I do believe this is one of the most niche products ASUS has ever released. Sounds like a great machine to play Battleship on!
