Arrest Me Red OnePlus 6 Announced With July 10 On-Sale Date
If the only thing that has been holding you back from picking up a OnePlus 6 handset is the lack of a red color option, you are in luck. Following the success of the OnePlus 5T Lava Red edition, OnePlus has decided to now offer a red version of its OnePlus 6, which it apparently put a lot of time and energy into narrowing down the exact shade of red.
According to OnePlus, it evaluated hundreds of colors before settling on red. Whether or not Apple's penchant for releasing red iPhone devices played a role is anyone's guess, but as far as OnePlus is concerned, this is about empowering users and tapping into their "inner confidence and courage," or something like that.
"Deciding on this color was not without its challenges. We see individual colors as a way to express certain feelings or ideas. To us, red exudes enthusiasm and personality. It also represents an inner confidence and courage. There is a kind of power in red, which the OnePlus logo has always tried to articulate. We hope you feel similarly empowered when you hold the OnePlus 6 Red this summer," OnePlus stated in a blog post.
OnePlus goes on to describe the struggle it went through in deciding to offer a new color option (yes folks, apparently the struggle is real), and how it aimed to choose a shade of red that wasn't "visually burdensome." Instead, it wanted something "passionate, but with a level of visual restraint." Who knew that choosing a color could be so complicated?
"In order to achieve an 'amber-like' depth and clarity, we used a new film coating process that’s never been attempted before in the smartphone industry. The result is a red that’s more elegant, one that leaves a strong impression of quality and value," OnePlus added. "Another challenge we faced was adequately increasing the brightness of the red coating."
To maintain the bright coating, the design team came up with an evaporated layer of brightening film that runs around $5 to make clear. "The result is a sizeable glossy, transparent layer over the red coating," the company said.
The blog post is a long winded way of saying the new OnePlus 6 Red looks pretty rad. And we have to admit, OnePlus has done a good job of drumming up excitement—score one for hyperbole.
Look for the OnePlus 6 Red to be available starting July 10, except in India, where it launch on July 16. The red color option will be available in the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage configuration.
