Apple's Mac App Store Opens with 1,000 Apps
"With more than 1,000 apps, the Mac App Store is off to a great start," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "We think users are going to love this innovative new way to discover and buy their favorite apps."
Apple, which practically invented the concept of an app store as a business model to drive hardware sales, has separated the Mac App Store apps into Education, Games, Graphics & Design, Lifestyle, Productivity, Utilities, and other categories. You'll find both new and "current Mac favorites" among the 1,000+ apps, Apple says.
Jobs and Co. say you can install apps on every Mac you use, and you'll be able to re-download when it comes time to upgrade to a new machine.
