Apple Cuts Prices On MacBook Air, Gooses Haswell Processor Speeds
The refreshed MacBook Air models sport the newest 802.11ac Wi-Fi standard, up to 12 hours of battery life, and Apple's iLife and iWork apps pre-installed. They also run the latest version of Mac OS X (Mavericks). However, it's the price points of each model that Apple really seems to be proud of here.
"With MacBook Air starting at $899, there’s no reason to settle for anything less than a Mac," said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. "Macs have never been more popular, and today we’ve boosted the performance and lowered the price of MacBook Air so even more people can experience the perfect everyday notebook."
In addition to the $899 SKU outlined above, there's also a $1,099 model in the 11-inch category that comes with twice as much storage (256GB). In the 13-inch category, Apple offers a $999 model (1.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i5, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD) and a $1,199 SKU (same specs but with a 256GB SSD). All four models are powered by Intel HD Graphics 5000.
Select upgrade options are available depending on the baseline model, including a bump up to a 1.7GHz Intel Core i7 chip, 8GB of RAM, and 512GB of SSD storage, along with various accessories available at checkout.
The refreshed MacBook Air models are available now direct from Apple.
