Android Jelly Bean Update for Galaxy S3 Coming In September

Despite Samsung losing  a billion dollar patent case to Apple, the company's Galaxy S III smartphone isn't among the list of infringing products and, for the time being, appears safe from potential sales bans in the U.S. Regardless of whether or not that changes, current owners will reportedly be able to grab an Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) update for their prized smartphone next month.

Samsung revealed the news during its IFA keynote in Berlin. The company didn't mention an exact release date, only that Jelly Bean is coming.

Samsung Galaxy S III

The news is far from a total surprise. For one, the Galaxy S III is Samsung's flagship device, so there's really no reason not to roll out a Jelly Bean update (it's just been a question of when). Secondly, there's already been a pre-release build leaked the Web. The ROM, which came straight from Samsung, dashed through cyberspace a week ago, giving adventurous modders an early glimpse of what to expect. You can still download and install the leaked build, but with an official update just weeks away, you're probably better off just waiting for final code.
