Anbernic is hoping to elevate its dual-screen gaming experience to the next level with its newly announced RG DDS (Dream Dual-Screen) gaming handheld. The device is designed to be the best way to experience classic gaming on the go, and to that end, the company has released a video featuring emulators from across many consoles generations running on the hardware.

Of course, it’s two displays are a key part of the package, and Anbernic has put in the work to ensure a coherent setup. It implements custom 300 PPI IPS panels that both offer 500 nits of peak brightness. The top display measures 4.7 inches and has a resolution of 1200x720, while the bottom display comes in at 4 inches with a resolution of 960x720, which preserve the aspect ratios of the Nintendo 3DS.

At the heart of the RG DDS lies the Qualcomm Snapdragon G2 Gen 2, which is capable of delivering the “best midrange Android gaming experience” according to the company. This SoC boasts 1 prime core, 4 performance cores and 3 efficiency cores and integrates an Adreno A22 GPU. It’s a powerful enough chip that the device needs an active cooling system.

The device feature offset joysticks, a d-pad, face buttons and an included retractable stylus. Moreover, for connectivity, the handheld will be outfitted withWi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4. Keeping it all powered is a 6000mAh battery.

In a video featuring an engineering prototype, it looks to be a solid performer. The device can be seen running several games and emulators without breaking a sweat, including Azahar Plus (Nintendo 3DS), Cemu (Wii U), ArmsX3 (PlayStation 3), X1 Box (Xbox), NetherSX2 (PlayStation 2), GameNative: Turnip (PC/Steam), and Android games. Although it’s always a good idea to wait for hands-on reviews with performance numbers to see how it handles these gaming scenarios in the real world.

An interesting feature is the redesigned control center, which should be immediately familiar to those using iOS 26 or 27. It is heavily inspired by Apple’s latest design language, Liquid Glass. We’ll see if Anbernic handheld fans will be divided about it as Apple fans are.

The RG DDS will be available for pre-order soon and is expected to ship to customers on December 10. There will be two configurations available, one with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for $299 and another with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for $364.99.
