Amazon Prime Falls To $79 On Friday To Celebrate ‘The Grand Tour’ Debut
That last bit is a buzz kill, but if you have managed to go this long without being a Prime member, Friday is your chance to jump on board for $79, a 20 percent discount for the first year's membership fee. Each year thereafter runs $99, barring any future promotions that might bring the price down for existing members or price hikes that drive it up.
Amazon is running the one-day deal in celebration of its new original series The Grand Tour, which it recorded in 4K Ultra HD. The Grand Tour is a motoring show featuring former Top Gear stars Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May. New episodes will release weekly over a 12-week period ending Friday, February 3, 2016.
"Amazon is committed to bringing Prime members programming that is unique and exciting," said Conrad Riggs, Head of Unscripted, Amazon Originals. "We are thrilled to bring back together the world’s beloved hosting team of Clarkson, Hammond and May for extraordinary adventures that can only be seen on Amazon Prime Video."
It remains to be seen how receptive Prime subscribers will be to the new original series, though there are plenty of other benefits to being a member. One of the biggest, of course, is free two-day shipping on millions of qualifying items. However, Amazon Prime carries a bunch of other perks these days, such as free unlimited photo storage, ad-free streaming of over two million songs, and more.
