Acer's Predator 21 X Is A Beastly GeForce GTX 1080 SLI Packin' Curved Display Gaming Laptop

Acer Predator 21 X

Acer rightfully says there's a new sheriff in town, that being its new Predator 21 X laptop, a mammoth system that's packed to the gills with high-end hardware. This crazy thing even has a curved screen display—it's the first laptop in the world to offer that amenity, which comes by way of a 21-inch panel with a 2,200R curvature and 2560x1080 resolution.

If we can fixate on the display for a moment, this looks to be a highlight of a laptop with several bragging points. It uses an In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel, which typically means generous viewing angles and more accurate color reproduction compared to TN displays, and supports NVIDIA's G-SYNC technology for smooth game play.

On top of all that goodness is Tobii eye-tracking technology built into the display. Using infrared sensors and software, the Predator 21 X can track your eye movements for a new level of control in games and apps that play nice with the technology.

Moving on, the Predator 21 X is one of new crop of laptops built around Intel's just-unveiled Kaby Lake architecture. It sports an unnamed 7th generation Core i7 processor, which is paired with up to 64GB of DDR4-2400 memory and not one, but TWO GeForce GTX 1080 GPUs in SLI, both with 8GB of GDDR5X of onboard memory. Up to four terabytes of SSD storage round out the core hardware.

The remaining notable features include an HD webcam and a full-size mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX key switches and customizable RGB backlight for each individual key. Oh, and the dedicated number pad can be flipped over and turned into a Precision Touchpad.

Acer Predator 21 X Cooling

How do you keep a sucker this like cool? By equipping it with five cooling fans, three of which use AeroBlade metal fins. The bigger question is how do you pack all this hardware into a portable system, and the answer is you don't.

Yes, this is technically a laptop, but there's a big divide between the Predator 21 X and the multitude of thin and light systems on the market. This Boss Hogg measures 22.36 x 12.42 x 3.28 inches (WxDxH) and weighs a back breaking 17.6 pounds.

Acer plans to unleash the Predator 21 X in January though hasn't said how much it will cost.
