If you used one of the old PalmOS PDAs, prior to its smartphones, you might remember Graffiti, the shorthand writing system which used gestures to enter characters with a stylus. It's back, thanks to Access, who acquired the rights to Graffiti following the Palm / Xerox settlement in 2006, but only on Android devices. Indeed, you might think... Read more...
On Friday morning, during the iPhone 4 press conference, one person in the audience noted that he couldn't get the "death grip" to work with his BlackBerry Bold 9700. The reason, answered Apple CEO Steve Jobs, was the fact that the signal was strong on the Apple Campus. More than that, it was strong not just for AT&T devices. “We’ve... Read more...

Apple has scheduled an iPhone 4 press conference for Friday morning, so what better day to release iOS 4.0.1, which reportedly fixes the signal bars display on the iPhone, ensuring you know exactly when the "death grip" will cause you to drop a call. Apple released the iPhone 4.1 SDK and beta OS on Wednesday, and it includes the much-hyped signal bar indicator fix that Apple said would fix the "death grip" problem shown when bridging the gap on the iPhone 4's external antenna system. Hayao Miyazaki is often called the greatest among Japanese animators. He is so well known that fans of his needn't have his first name uttered; Miyazaki is enough. Still, comparing use of the iPad to masturbation? Hmmm ... Speaking in an interview for the newsletter (Neppuu) of his production company, Studio Ghibli, Miyazaki said he's not... Read more...
If one thing has grated on AT&T's signal-strapped customers since the introduction of its MicroCell, it's that you have to pay it. After all, you are paying extra for something you should get by default: decent coverage. Perhaps some loyal customers are seeing a reward for that loyalty, however, in the form of free MicroCells. AT&T's... Read more...

We reported earlier that AT&T confirmed a July 18th date for the Captivate, its Samsung Galaxy S variant. It was rumored that T-Mobile was moving up the launch of its own Galaxy S variant, the Vibrant from July 21 to July 15, and that has now been confirmed, also. While unclear if the reason for the Vibrant's bump by six days is the Captivate,... Read more...

Apple probably needs a laugh about now, and this might be giving them one.  After all, Apple CEO Steve Jobs once famously said that "Folks who want porn can buy an Android phone." Apple's CS reps have their talking points, but those talking points apparently don't cover what to say if someone asks if the upcoming software fix will resolve the iPhone 4's reception issues.
