Many of the juiciest deals on Black Friday are often deeply discounted technology products, making Best Buy a seemingly obviously destination for anyone trying to score a deal. But will the electronics chain live up to expectations? It very well may—Best Buy's Black Friday advertisement lists some enticing deals, including $300 off any of Samsung's flagship Galaxy phones, those being the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, and Galaxy Note 8. The discount requires "qualified activation" with a wireless carrier. Best Buy specifically lists Verizon and Sprint on its advertisement, so it looks like AT&T... Read more...
Paying $699.99 for the Essential Phone? Ain't nobody got time for that. If you shelled out the full asking price of the smartphone on pre-order or early at launch, the bad news for you today is that the price of the smartphone has gone down again, with Best Buy chopping anther $50 off the asking price for the phone as it tries to move stock. With the additional $50 off, the smartphone is now selling for $449.99. The father of Android, Andy Rubin, and his company, Essential, certainly didn’t expect to be here with the fancy new device. The smartphone launched as a Sprint carrier exclusive, which... Read more...
Best Buy did not earn itself any brownie points by overcharging customers for Apple's newly minted iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X handsets, each of which carried a $100 premium for the privilege of buying one from the electronics chain instead of direct from Apple, and its explanation as to why it has now pulled the unlocked SKUs from its store shelves is just lame. Summed up, the marked up phones did not sell in part because of "noise in the media" and "confusion" with its customers. Really, Best Buy? "Although there was clearly demand for the un-activated iPhone X, selling it that way... Read more...
Earlier this morning at 12:01 AM PST, Apple opened up pre-orders for the highly anticipated iPhone X. But as is often the case with a new Apple flagship, actually securing one for delivery on launch day was difficult for some customers. The online Apple Store and the Apple Store app were inaccessible for some fans for extended periods of time, and by the time they did get to order, shipping times had slipped from launch day delivery (November 3rd) to "Ships: 2-3 weeks". Those looking into place an order now will have to end up waiting a month or longer for their fancy new iPhone X. Going to Apple's... Read more...
It seems like just yesterday when Andy Rubin’s Essential Phone was released, promising to take on the big names in the Android smartphone market like Samsung, LG, HTC and Google. With its slim bezels and odd cutout around its front-facing camera, the Essential Phone definitely turned a few heads when it was first announced. However, not many people were particularly enamored with its $699.99 price. Well, if you were sitting on the fence because of the price tag, Best Buy has a deal that just might get you to make the final leap. The electronics retailer has slashed $100 off the price of the smartphone,... Read more...
Today marks Nintendo's launch of the highly anticipated SNES Classic Edition, which interestingly has the same hardware inside as the NES Classic Edition that came before it. This scaled down console brings 21 retro video games that many gamers grew up on and crams them into one package with no need to sling cartridges like back in the day. Nintendo has promised higher production levels of the SNES classic than the previous retro NES offering that was so hard to find. More production doesn't necessarily mean that the new console will be easy to find. We are going to run down all the places you... Read more...
If you didn't bite on the pre-order madness for the Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition consoles a while back, now is your chance to pre-order the standard version of Microsoft's latest console hardware. Pre-orders kicked off today at 10 AM PT at retailers like Amazon, Best Buy and GameStop for the standard Xbox One X (system ship November 7).  GameStop fans also have some cool deals to go along with the pre-orders for the console bundles. Gamers can get a $200 credit toward the Xbox One X if they trade in their current console. Odds are there are caveats to that, but those are unclear. There... Read more...
Kaspersky just lost a major customer. Best Buy, the largest electronics retailer in the United States, is yanking Kaspersky's security products off its brick-and-mortar and online store shelves. While Kaspersky has traditionally been one of the most well regarded developers of security software for PCs and mobile devices, more recently some have voiced concerns over the company's potential ties with the Russian government. It is not clear what exactly was the straw that broke the camel in this case. Best Buy may have been spooked by numerous media reports covering the topic, or it could have been... Read more...
We are all suckers for nostalgia, it seems, especially when it comes to old school gaming. Our collective desire to relive games of yesteryear was on full display when Nintendo released and quickly sold out of its miniature NES Classic Edition console, and now again with the Super NES Classic Edition, another mini-sized game system that flew off virtual store shelves just as quickly as it was stocked (again). Congratulations to the late night owls who scored a Super NES Classic from Best Buy before the retailer emptied its inventory. Best Buy lifted the curtain on the highly anticipated console... Just over a month ago, Samsung made the unlocked versions of the hit Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ available to the public. The smartphones were eligible for purchase via Samsung.com and Best Buy priced at $725 and $825 respectively without any contracts or strings attached. "By combining the freedom that Unlocked by Samsung provides, with the innovative and groundbreaking features of our latest flagship phones, we are giving consumers even more choice and convenience for their mobile needs,” said said Tim Baxter, president and chief operating officer of Samsung Electronics America, at the time. Now,... Read more...
If you have a cracked iPhone screen and want to get it repaired the “right” way, you will soon have a new avenue for getting those repairs completed — and it won’t necessarily have to be at an Apple Store. Apple is sending out its own proprietary machines that can safely and effectively replace iPhone displays, while certifying that secure elements of the device (like the fingerprint sensor) will continue to work. According to a new report, Apple will be sending out 400 of these machines in 25 countries throughout the globe by the end of 2017. Unsurprisingly, Best Buy, which is one of the largest... In a perfect world, all smartphones would be able to connect to any wireless carrier's network. But we do not live in a perfect world, and as such most smartphones are tied to either CDMA or GSM networks, thereby narrowing a user's choice of wireless carrier. The exception is when a smartphone is unlocked to support both types of networks. Well, good news—Samsung's flagship Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ handsets are both now available to preorder in unlocked form in the U.S. The unlocked variants are compatible with both types of networks, giving users the freedom to hop from wireless carriers that...   Here we go again! The Nintendo NES Classic Edition has been one of the hottest game consoles “available” — and we used that word lightly — for the past six months. Priced at just $59.99, the NES Classic Edition has satisfied the 80s retro urges of gamers in a pint-sized, HDTV-compatible package. Luckily, we’ve learned that one of your last chances to get your hands on the gaming console for retail price is coming up tomorrow morning, April 23rd, when Best Buy stores open. The nationwide electronics retailer posted on Twitter that it will have limited stock of the NES Classic Edition:TOMORROWIn... Read more...
Nintendo has often failed us when it comes to providing adequate supplies of both its NES Classic Edition and the Switch gaming consoles. The retrotastic NES Classic Edition has been hard to find in retail stores ever since it launched on November 10th, despite the fact that Nintendo has promised to increase production to meet demand. Likewise, the newly launched Switch is arguably even harder to find these days. So, whenever a retailer announces that it will have new stock of either console in its stores, eager gamers take notice. Over the weekend, it was Toys R Us that enticed Zelda... Read more...
