Kid-Safe Android-Based MiiPC Launches on Kickstarter
The MiiPC is designed to help parents manage where and when the kiddos are online and what applications they use. Parents can use a free companion app to remotely edit and view the settings and parental controls and also monitor the applications that kids are using in real time, and there’s also a MiiPC Web App Center with 500 websites and web apps that are parent-and-kid friendly.
Thanks to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, the MiiPC offers multi-user capability so each member of the family can have his or her own set of apps, and then of course users have access to the Google Play store as well as the Amazon AppStore.
MiiPC companion app
Under the hood is a Marvell New Armada Dual Core 1.2GHz SoC , 1GB RAM, and 4GB of internal storage. There’s also a pair of USB 2.0 ports, a speaker/microphone jack, HDMI out (1080p), a Miracast receiver for remote wireless display (via enabled devices), and 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Ethernet port, and Bluetooth 4.0 for connectivity.
The group has a finished prototype and the companion mobile app is nearing completion. The MiiPC is scheduled to launch with production volume this summer.
