Google Nexus 9 To Be Made By HTC, Powered By NVIDIA Tegra K1
We now feel reasonably confident in saying that HTC is building Google's Nexus 9 tablet and that it will be powered by NVIDIA's mighty Tegra K1 platform. The reason we believe all this to be the case even though there hasn't been an official announcement is because NVIDIA tipped its hand in a legal document accusing Qualcomm and Samsung of infringing on its GPU technology patents.
The keen-eyed folks at Bright Side of News discovered the inadvertent leak in an NVIDIA document that states, "The HTC Nexus 9, expected in the third quarter of 2014, is also expected to use the Tegra K1." That's quite a bit of information packed into a just a single sentence, and though NVIDIA may not have meant to do so, the GPU maker seems to have confirmed priors rumors topped off with a launch time frame. Thank you NVIDIA, and also Qualcomm and Samsung.
We can also infer that Android L (likely to be Lemon Meringue Pie) is right around the corner as well. After all, it hardly make sense for Google to release a major new tablet without also introducing the newest version of Android. Bear in mind that Android 4.4 KitKat came out on October 31, 2013, when Google announced the Nexus 5. Prior to that, Google released Jelly Bean on July 9, 2012, followed by the Nexus 7 tablet, the first device to run Jelly Bean, four days later.
So to recap, Google has tapped HTC to construct its Nexus 9 tablet, which will run NVIDIA's 64-bit Tegra K1 System-on-Chip (SoC) and launch in the third quarter (we wonder if that will be pushed to early Q4). As for rumored specs that haven't yet been confirmed, word around the web is that the Nexus 9 will rock an 8.9-inch display with a 2048x1440 resolution, 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of built-in storage, 8MP rear-facing camera with optical image stabilization, 3MP front-facing camera, front-facing speakers, and a zero-gap aluminum unibody design.
