Google Maps Navigates to 10 Million iOS Downloads
"We're excited for the positive reception of Google Maps for iPhone around the world. Congratulations to the Maps Team on the recognition for the passion and hard work they poured into it, for this release and over the last 7+ years," Huber stated in his Google+ post announcing the number of downloads.
Apple was heavily criticized for booting Google Maps from iOS 6 in favor of its own mapping software, a decision that was made even more unpopular when Apple Maps began doling out incorrect location information. At one point, Australian police even warned motorists against using Apple Maps because its inaccuracies led some motorists to a semi-arid national park where temperatures routinely reach 115F, leaving them stranded with no water supply. That was after Apple CEO Tim Cook had already apologized for the whole Maps fiasco.
Needless to say, it appears Apple users are thrilled to have Google Maps back on their iPhones.
