Facebook Brings Poking Back Into Vogue With New iPhone App

Some things get old, and some things get stale. But some things, they just never die. Such is the famed "Poke" on Facebook, which started out as "a thing," slowly faded to a feature that's tough to even find, and now it's evidently ready to resurface. Facebook has just announced its Poke app, available for iPad, iPod touch and iPhone. It's a free app that's putting a new face on a feature that was ushered in way back in 2004.

With the Poke app, you can poke or send a message, photo, or video to Facebook friends to share what you're up to in a lightweight way. You can poke an individual friend or several at once. Each message expires after a specific time you've set, either 1, 3, 5 or 10 seconds. When time runs out, the message disappears from the app. To see a message from a friend, press and hold the message until it expires. If you ever see something you’re uncomfortable with, you can click the gear menu and report it.

Will it rekindle desire for you to Poke your friends, or do you already have plenty of Facebook apps to worry over?
