Android Wear today is quite a different beast from when it landed nearly two years ago — thankfully, it’s been changed for the better thanks to steady improvements and feature additions that Google has bestowed onto the operating system made for smartwatches. Today, Google is rolling out another big Android Wear update, which is running Android 6.0 Marshmallow at its core. The update brings the ability to send messages with your smartwatch using just your voice. A number of messaging services are supported including WhatsApp, WeChat, Viber and of course Google Hangouts. To send a message, you could for example say, “OK Google, send a Google Hangouts message to Paul: Hey man, answer your phone!”... Read more...
Though it still hasn't grabbed consumers like some manufacturers had hoped, the smartwatch market is growing rather quickly, and a number of good options are currently available. For some users, price may be one of the key factors holding them back from buying a smartwatch. While many watches cost at least $250, and some can run hundreds of dollars more, ASUS’s latest ZenWatch 2 we'll be showing you here is available for as little as $129. Of course, any time we see a budget-friendly smartphone, laptop, tablet, or smartwatch we assume sacrifices were made to keep the price low. In the case of the ZenWatch 2, this is somewhat true but you may be pleasantly surprised by all the features it has... Read more...
It seems like eons ago, but in early June, ASUS first announced its second generation Android Wear smartwatch, the ZenWatch 2. The ZenWatch 2 doesn’t stray to far away from the original when it comes to styling, but it does offer quite a few more design options to appease a broader group of people. The ZenWatch 2 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor paired with 512MB of RAM and you’ll still find 4GB of storage onboard. Both smartwatches also feature Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1 support. ASUS has amped up things a bit with regards to case sizes this time around. ASUS is offering a 49mm casing that houses a 1.63-inch AMOLED display (320x320) or a smaller 45mm casing that is home to a 1.45-inch... Read more...
And just like that, Google has changed the smartwatch marketplace, hopefully for the better. Last week, we brought you the interesting news that the Amazon product listing for the Huawei Watch mentioned support for Apple devices running iOS 8.2 or above. Now we had previously heard rumors about support for Android Wear devices coming to iPhones in the past, but they were just that: rumors. And the iOS 8.2 bullet point could have just as easily been an typing entry error, as it’s something that often happens when product listings are created for sites like Amazon. However, as we have learned this morning, this was no mistake. Apple’s iPhone will now support Android Wear smartwatches thanks to... Read more...
The original ASUS ZenWatch was originally announced back in September 2014, but the smartwatch market is moving at an incredible clip these days, so the Taiwanese OEM has deemed it necessary to unload a next generation Android Wear model: the ZenWatch 2. While the ZenWatch 2 retains design familiarity with its predecessor, it is now available in two different case sizes (echoing a similar move by Apple with the Apple Watch), which should make it more appealing to both men and women. The larger of the two smartwatches features a 49mm stainless steel case paired with an interchangeable 22mm strap, while the smaller 45mm stainless steel case comes with an 18mm strap. ASUS is also stepping up the... Read more...
