We love a good leak, and it appears that German IT distributor bluechip Computer has struck gold with information on new chipsets incoming from both AMD and Intel. While we present this information with a skeptical eye, it does mesh with previous leaked details that we've covered and what we've heard from our own channel sources. Looking at the first slide below, we see that AMD has at least two new chipsets arriving over the course of the next two months. The first is the Z490, which is set to launch next month, and the B450, which is set to bow in late July. For those not in the know, Z490 is supposedly a more feature-filled version of the existing AMD X470 chipset and is reported to have four... Read more...
There's a new X399 motherboard chipset coming this year from a major chip manufacturer. No, we're not talking about a revamped version of AMD's X399 chipset used in its Ryzen Threadripper processors, but an X399 chipset from Intel that will be used in its own 2018 family of HEDT processors.  A document on Intel's website [PDF] was recently discovered that draws attention to the company's Rapid Storage Technology. However, found within the document are references to two unannounced chipsets: the Z390 (which we have discussed at length here at HotHardware) and the X399. The Z390 will support both existing Coffee Lake processor and the incoming 10nm Cannon... Read more...
Competition tends to bring out the best in people, and for the engineers at Intel, that means responding to AMD's 8-core Ryzen processors with 8-core variants of its own chips for mainstream consumers. And make no mistake, they are coming. Further evidence of this can be seen in Futuremark's 3DMark database, where one of Intel's 8-core Coffee Lake-S processors made an appearance. The database is only partially filled in, so there are certain details we do not have yet. For example, the listing does not mention the boost clock, amount of cache, or TDP. However, it does indicate that Hyper Threading is supported, as it shows there is 1 physical processor, 8 cores, and 16 logical processors. That... Read more...
We've been talking a lot about Intel's upcoming Coffee Lake architecture for the past few months, and are eagerly awaiting its arrival. However, it appears that Intel has even more potent chips in the pipeline that will go beyond the hexa-core chips that will highlight Coffee Lake. Heads (and eyes) are probably rolling at Intel HQ, because a representative for Eurocom confirmed that Intel's Z390 chipset will be launching during the second half of 2018. That much was known thanks to leaked roadmaps that have made their way to the internet. An interesting tidbit of information that was also revealed, is that there will be enthusiast CPUs using this chipset that will feature 8 cores and 16 threads.... Read more...
