It seems LG couldn't contain their enthusiasm any longer and announced their new products a day ahead of their NYC event.  The new flagship, dubbed the V10, is really looking to double-down on just about everything with two screens and dual front-facing cameras. The second screen sits just above the main QHD display to act as a ticker for notifications, weather, the time, and more.  The smaller screen keeps you in the loop without any impact in battery life, according to LG.  When the phone is in use, the 2.1 inch 160 x 1040 ticker becomes a multitasking hub which provides quick access to your favorite apps.  The idea is not unfamiliar as Samsung likes to tout the ticker functions... It seems as though LG has employed a bad good, better, best strategy with its Android Wear smartwatch family. The company first released the G Watch, which was a blandly-designed smartwatch that probably shouldn’t have left the LG labs. Next up came the G Watch R, which brought with it a fully circular display and a sport-oriented design. Finally, LG stepped up to the plate with the Watch Urbane, which also includes a circular display but ups the style factor immensely compared to its predecessors. The Watch Urbane went on sale earlier today via the U.S. Google Store for $349 and as a result, the G Watch R is receiving a price cut to distance itself from its newer, flashier sibling. LG’s first effort in the Android Wear space, the G Watch, looked like a cheap prototype that should have never left the research lab. Its second offering, the G Watch R added a dash of style and a round display, but still didn’t look like a high-end wristwatch. LG announced the Watch Urbane in mid-February in an effort to up the luxury factor of its smartwatches. The Watch Urbane is available in silver and gold finishes, and comes with a leather band. Not long after the announcement of the Watch Urbane, LG threw us all for a loop with the announcement of the Watch Urbane LTE, which doesn’t even run Android Wear like previous LG smartwatches. Instead, it uses a heavily revised version of webOS,... Read more...
Good, Better, Best? LG underwhelmed most with its first entry into the Android Wear game: the G Watch. While it was a competent smartwatch, it was far from stylish and looked more like a factory prototype than something that you’d actually want to wear on your wrist. The company stepped up its game with the G Watch R, which brought a lot more style to the table a fully circular watch face (unlike the Motorola Moto 360, with its “flat tire” display). And now, LG is looking to up the ante even further and steel a bit of thunder from Apple’s upcoming premium Apple Watch offering with the Watch Urbane. The Watch Urbane is LG’s first all-metal Android Wear smartwatch and is a clear evolution of the... Read more...
