Watch out Minecraft, there is a up and coming sandbox game looking to challenge your throne. Roblox Corp. recently raised $92 million to enhance its customizable sandbox video game. The funds will mostly go to hiring coders to develop social and mobile tools and buying back shares from employees. Roblox was first introduced in beta in 2004, but officially launched in 2006. It started to really gain traction in 2011. Players can customize their avatar for use in multiplayer and games include a variety of scenarios, from running a pizza joint to surviving a natural disaster. Starbound is finally earthbound. Chucklefish Games’ 2D sandbox exploration game will be officially released on July 22nd, after swimming in Steam’s Early Access pool for over two years. In the game, the player begins by fleeing their home planet in a spaceship. There are multiple available races, and each has their own reason for leaving their home world. The player lands on a habitable planet to explore the vast sandbox universe where they can complete both quests and story-driven missions. In what must be considered one of the most obvious, inherently logical, and overdue moves in open world gameplay, the Internet, technology, commerce, business, marketing, etc., LEGO has launched LEGO Worlds, the company's entry into the sandbox gaming space.   Available through Valve's PC gaming Stream platform (Windows only, at this stage), LEGO Worlds players can procedurally generate their own landscapes using LEGO bricks that can be freely manipulated (virtual ones, of course), and they can dynamically populate their worlds with LEGO models based on real-world LEGO play sets (mini-figs, vehicles, creatures...other LEGO-branded whatnot!).
