When it comes to proprietary quick charging solutions using the USB Type-C interface, Google is not exactly happy with the current state of affairs. More specifically, the use of Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 has especially gotten under Google’s skin with regards to compliance with USB-C charging specifications. Qualcomm addressed these concerns earlier this year in a statement, writing: When an OEM chooses to implement Quick Charge into their device, they can configure the voltage to fit within the specifications of the USB Type-C standard. We have received no reports of user experience or device malfunction issues with or without USB Type-C connectors. Google engineer Benson Leung, who has been... Read more...
Qualcomm is promising faster phone charges by way of Quick Charge 3.0, the next generation of its fast charging technology. What's different about Quick Charger 3.0 versus the first two iterations is the ability to employ something called Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV). In plain English, INOV is an algorithm that allows portable devices to determine the exact power level needed for optimal power transfer at any point in time rather than rely on a predetermined voltage limit across the board. It also supports wider voltage options -- a mobile device can dynamically adjust the ideal voltage level supported by that specific device from 3.6V to 20V in 200mV increments. It essentially...
