There has been some excitement amongst the Android faithful over the Pixel 2 smartphones that are due to launch today, and leaks have landed recently giving us an idea what the devices will look like. Those images have already stoked the disappointment in many hopefuls, because the Pixel 2 smartphones have thicker bezels and lack the high-end design touches found in other devices like the Galaxy Note 8 or iPhone 8. Jean Baptiste Su, principal analyst at Atherton Research has now written that the Pixel 2 lineup will be a major disappointment. Reasons cited for this are a boring design aesthetic... Read more...
Although we had previously penciled in October 5th as the debut date for the new Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 smartphones, Google has confirmed both phones will actually debut on October 4th. This new date was first confirmed in a billboard that was spotted in Boston, and Google just confirmed the date in a YouTube video (if you recall, Google launched the original Pixel and Pixel XL on October 4th, 2016). Although the teaser video gives absolutely no details on what its next generation smartphones will look like, it does present a number of rhetorical questions that users ask about their current smartphones,... Google is taking an interesting strategy with its next generation Pixel devices, the Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2. Around this time last month, a filing with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) revealed that HTC is the manufacturer behind the Pixel 2. Now we have learned that LG is producing the Pixel XL 2 rather than HTC, which was also confirmed by an FCC filing. Both phones have not yet been formally announced. This time around the FCC filing is quite as fleshed out as the last one. However, it does provide some goodies. The filing lists the FCC ID as ZNFG011C, which is a combination of LG's... Read more...
There are two things that are vogue in the smartphone space right now. One is organic light emitting diode (OLED) technology, and the other is tiny bezels (if they exist at all). Google is said to be embracing both for its upcoming Pixel XL 2 handset. If pre-release chatter is correct, the Pixel XL 2 will feature a 5.99-inch OLED display with barely any bezels to speak of, unlike the regular Pixel 2, which will have bigger bezels. It seems a bit strange that the two devices would differ in such a manner, especially since the original Pixel and Pixel XL were so similar in physical design, save for... Google made quite the impression on the smartphone community with the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones, which launched last year. The flagships were particularly praised for their performance and cameras, which makes the arrival of their successors even more highly anticipated. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait much longer, as a highly respected source informs us that the Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 will launch on October 5th. This news comes from noted leaker Evan Blass, so his confirmation of the launch date is nearly as bulletproof as if it came directly from Google. What’s even more interesting is... Read more...
Google is just a few months away from revealing its 2017 Android flagships, which are codenamed Taimen and Walleye. We’ve seen speculative renders of the Pixel XL 2 (Taimen), and that device looks to minimize its display bezels, opting for a design that is becoming increasingly common in 2017-era Android flagships. However, new images from seasoned leaker Evan Blass suggest that the smaller Pixel 2 (Walleye) won’t be too far removed from its predecessor when it comes to design. Although it may be a little difficult to tell from the grainy images, the Pixel 2 still features rather large bezels framing... Read more...
Google is very much a participant in the smartphone wars even if it does not go blazing into battle with the biggest, baddest artillery. That is okay, because one of the draws of its own phones is they are among the first to receive new builds of Android. They also lack third-party skins and other bloat. All that said, Google fans are looking forward to the Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2, both of which have been the subject of numerous leaks and rumors in recent weeks. The latest leak provides details on what is allegedly a finalized spec sheet.Let's start with the larger of the two, Google's Pixel XL... Read more...
While nothing is yet official, there is some evidence to suggest that HTC will be building Google's forthcoming Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 handsets, which are due out later this year. That would not be shocking—HTC built Google's original Pixel and Pixel XL phones last year and the two have been partners in the hardware space for quite some time, as Google does not currently manufacture its own hardware. The latest news comes from a Japanese-language blog that took a peek inside HTC's U11 system files. Inside the blog found entries pointing to international versions of the Ocean, which is the codename... Read more...
Benchmarking sites continue to hint at what Google has in store for its second generation Pixel handsets. Just a few weeks ago, what is believed to be one of Google's forthcoming Pixel 2 devices landed on Geekbench, giving us a glimpse of the phone's performance. Now there is GFXBench entry that lists the "Pixel XL2" as toting a 5.6-inch display with a 2560x1312 resolution. That works out to around an 18:9 aspect ratio. And if the listing is indeed indicative of the final model, it also means the Pixel XL2 will carry fewer pixels than its predecessor, which featured a 2560x1440 resolution and 16:9... Read more...
