Man, if MSI doesn't stop popping out new notebooks, people are seriously going to have a tough time deciding whether to jump in now or wait all the way until tomorrow to see what's "just around the bend." As the flood of new MSI machines amazingly continues, the U110 ECO has become the freshest of the fresh for the moment. Not surprisingly, it seems this machine is MSI's answer to Asus' long-lasting Eee PC 1000HE, as it boasts a nine hour maximum battery life and is based on the power-sipping Intel Menlow platform.Unlike the company's U115 Hybrid, this rig includes just a standard 2.5" HDD (and not an SSD), which makes the battery claims that much more astounding. Other specifications include... Read more...
Here lately, MSI has definitely been on the notebook kick. Day after day, we've seen new laptop after new laptop emerge to fit pretty much every budget and every wish list. Today, however, the company is breaking from the norm to talk up its sound equipment; more specifically, its X-Fi-enabled motherboards.MSI asserts that of all the mainboards on the market now that are implementing Creative's X-Fi audio technology, it is the only one left who insists on utilizing a true hardware decoder solution. In other words, its products come loaded with a Creative DSP, DAC and ADC audio decoder chip as well as its optimized Creative software solution. MSI takes aim at its rivals by asserting that "many... Read more...
Another weekday, another MSI notebook. After detailing a new line of gaming and multimedia laptops at CeBIT this month, the company seems to be trickling out even more as the month of March marches on. Yesterday it was the bargain-minded VX600; today it's the stylish and nimble VR430.MSI's latest (for now, anyway) notebook features a decorative ocean wave lid, the company's own ECO Engine for saving power whenever possible and a slim, sleek overall build. Sitting just between the realms of ultraportables and full size notebooks, the VR430 includes a 14.1" LCD with a 1280 x 800 resolution, a DVD drive, 1.3-megapixel camera (for video calling, video chatting, etc.), a 4-in-1 card reader and three... Frankly, it's getting difficult to even keep track of all the new notebooks coming from the assembly lines at MSI. After introducing a new crop at CeBIT last week, the company has issued today the VX600, a bargain-minded machine that aims to provide decent everyday performance and enough power to handle the occasional multimedia duty. In order to keep the battery humming along as long as possible, the VX600 is also equipped with MSI's exclusive ECO Engine, a power saving management function that looks to extend battery life whenever possible. The 15.4" machine includes a 1280 x 800 resolution panel, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, internal microphone, 4-in-1 card reader, four USB 2.0 connectors, full... Read more...

If MSI's iMac-like Wind NetOn AP1900 was a bit too "standard fare" for your tastes, the aforementioned company has revealed a few touch-friendly machines at CeBIT that may be just what the innovation doctor ordered. The all new Wind Top line has been revealed, and at least initially, it will consist of three models: the AE1900, AE2200 and the AE2010. The line will span from 19" to 22" in terms of diagonal screen size, and much like HP's TouchSmart all-in-one PCs, these too posses all the internals you need for a full-fledged computing experience and allow you to control the mouse cursor and various other applications via touch. As for the AE2010, it will come with a single-core AMD processor,... Read more...
Among the deluge of NVIDIA news this week, MSI has decided to throw its hat in the ring by introducing a new graphics card that's powered by the aforesaid firm. The N260GTX Lightning is predictably based on the GeForce GTX 260, which we heard earlier this year was getting a PCB tweak to shave costs. It's hard to tell from this release if anything is different from earlier GTX 260s, but given that new GPUs were announced by NVIDIA within the past seven days, it's a pretty safe bet that this one will be cheaper than expected anyway. MSI's latest card packs 1792MB of on-board memory, a dual-fan design and an "AirForce Panel" to easily overclock it. In order to ensure the durability under intense... Read more...
MSI definitely didn't infringe on the iMac too much with its NetOn AP1900 all-in-one PC, but some might say the company's new X-Slim notebooks bear a strong (maybe too strong) resemblance to Apple's MacBook Air. Of course, we'd argue that the X340 and X600 both have a look of their own, but there's no doubt that some similarities exist. output, What's definitely different, however, is the processor, the color, the ports and of course, the operating system. Both computers are loaded with Intel's ultra-low voltage (ULV) architecture, and the X340 in particular includes a Centrino Mobile platform, a 13 inch LED-backlit display, a maximum thickness of just 1.98 centimeters, an HDMIBlu-ray support,... Apple has its iMac, Dell has its XPS One and MSI has its Wind NetOn AP1900. You heard right -- MSI is jumping feet first into the all-in-one PC game, strategically adding the "Wind" moniker that has served it so well in the netbook arena. And we must say, the design here isn't all that bad considering that it's MSI's first shot at getting it right.Reportedly, the AP1900 is the world's thinnest all-in-one PC, measuring in at just 35 millimeters (1.377 inches) thick. In fact, some users may prefer to ditch the stand entirely and mount it given that it comes with VESA mount compatibility. Internally, the machine houses a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, an 18.5-inch WSXGA widescreen panel, up to... Read more...

MSI did the right thing by beefing up its Wind U100 with a six-cell battery and a 160GB hard drive, but in doing so, it took a fair amount of thunder away from the machine's successor. The Wind U120 keeps the same 10 inch LCD, 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 1.3 megapixel camera and 4-in-1 card reader, though it does include Bluetooth as a standard option. It's widely speculated that the U120 is a simple stopgap between the aging U100 and MSI's true next-generation netbook, but for those in need of a small machine right now, it still offers plenty of value. For $469.99, the freshest Wind can be yours, complete with a more mature, classy enclosure and a nagging feeling that it will be outdated... Read more...

The folks at MSI have been cooking up a number of new netbook products, as we'll certainly see at CES this week. MSI has released a cheaper 8.9" version of the Wind, the U90, which is currently available in parts of Europe, Australia and Canada. However, at least for the time being, the original MSI Wind, now dubbed the Wind U100, is still the only MSI netbook officially sold in the US. Today we're going to pit it head-to-head with a couple of its younger competitors to see if can keep up with the mass of new competition.  ... Read more...
Immediately after ASUS launched the Eee PC into an unsuspecting notebook market over a year ago, the short term answer from competitors was, well, nothing, save perhaps for the XO-1 from the OLPC organization. At the time, there was still speculation about whether or not anyone would even be interested in a low power, low cost, ultraportable notebook. Certainly no one who has seen netbook sales figures is asking that question anymore but at the time few companies were eager to jump onto a new and unproven bandwagon. Netbook-mania and the first retail-available responses to the Eee didn't appear until nearly 6 months later, but when it did, it arrived in the form of the MSI Wind, followed closely... Read more...
