Halo 5: Guardians was noticeably absent from the list of existing Xbox One games that Microsoft announced at E3 would receive a 4K upgrade for its upcoming Xbox One X console. If you were miffed at the apparent snub, we have good news—developer 343 Industries has now confirmed that a 4K patch is coming the fifth main entry in the Halo franchise, and it will deliver true 4K visuals. "The team here at 343 always had a desire to bring players the best Halo 5 experience for Xbox One X, but we weren’t quite ready to make the announcement during the E3 time frame. Today we are excited to officially confirm that Halo 5 will receive a game update to support true 4K with the release of Xbox One X later... Read more...
A few days ago, 343 Industries began rolling out a pretty massive update for both Halo 5 and Halo 5: Forge. Monitor’s Bounty, as it’s called, brings wealth of new features to the table along with updates to the Arena and Warzone playlists. You’ll also find things like the Custom Games Browser, which is being added for Halo 5 in both Windows 10 and on the Xbox One. With the browser, you can search for in-progress game straight from the main menu and you can even suit up and join these games (depending on their privacy settings). “We’ve also updated the Content Browser so that if you find a map or mode that you like, you’ll be able to browse for in-progress custom games from that file’s options,”... If you’re a Halo fan that also wouldn’t mind getting in some higher-resolution gaming action on the PC platform, the wait is nearly over. Microsoft announced today that Halo 5: Forge, which was announced back in May, will go live for Windows 10 PCs on September 8th. Halo 5: Forge has full support for mouse and keyboard inputs (which is of course the preferred control scheme for PC gamers) and will allow you to play against up to 16 of your online friends. Best of all, as long as your gaming rig can support it, you’ll be able to enjoy up to 4K display resolutions with Halo 5: Forge. There are of course a few downsides to speak of — for starters, you won’t get the Xbox One single-player campaign... Read more...
Suit up: Halo 5: Guardians has gone gold. Studio head Josh Holmes made the announcement this afternoon, capping what he described as “an incredible three year journey for our team.” The game is set to go live on October 27th, so the Halo crew will have just a little time to catch their collective breath before the action starts again. “Together we set out to accomplish an ambitious vision and deliver a Halo game built from the ground up for the Xbox One,” Holmes said in today’s post. “Now as we near the release of the game on October 27, we couldn’t be more excited to share the results with you, the fans.”To emphasize the sheer magnitude of the effort that went into the game and whet our appetites,... I'm the first to proudly admit I'm a PC man. Normally when I hear about "customized" gaming consoles my first response is "Hey, every PC I've built is customized." But there's something special about Microsoft's newly announced Xbox One Halo 5: Guardians Limited Edition 1TB bundle.  No, snarky reader, it's not merely the $500 price tag.  Microsoft's limited edition Xbox One console, which releases this October a week prior to the launch of Halo 5: Guardians, sets my hardware lust (an internal meter which dictates how much cash I'll irrationally spend with complete disregard for logic or budget) into overdrive. It boasts a design "inspired by UNSC technology" and is accented by metallic... Read more...
One of the most popular gaming franchises of all time is getting an eighth title (sixth main installment) this fall. We're talking about Halo 5: Guardians, which will release on October 27, 2015, and take its place in history as Master Chief's first native Xbox One appearance, Microsoft announced in a Twitter post under its Xbox handle. In anticipation of the release, Microsoft ran a couple of advertisements that aired during the season finale of The Walking Dead last night. Microsoft also posted the same trailers on YouTube. In the first one, you see Agent Locke make his way through a decimated city that's been reduced to piles of rocks and smoke. About the only thing left standing is a statue... Read more...
It’s a good thing that Lizard Squad-led attack on Microsoft’s Xbox Live online gaming service was short-lived, because one of the most anticipated beta releases in months is now open. Microsoft (via Xbox Wire) announced that the multiplayer beta for Halo 5: Guardians is now available.  Microsoft is hoping to give gamers just a little taste of what to expect when the game officially hits store shelves in Fall 2015. The demo will allow players to take part in 4 vs. 4 arena matches across seven different maps. In addition, a “variety of different armor sets” will be available so that you can further customize your Spartan.  While Master Chief will continue to play a pivotal role in Halo... Read more...
When Microsoft announced the Xbox One, one of its headline features was the creation of new TV and video content. Headlining this new endeavor was a custom Halo-themed television show directed by Ridley Scott. Microsoft didn't reveal much additional information and the news itself was generally swept under the rug in the wash of controversy over Kinect, the always-on camera, the intrusive DRM, constant phone-home checks, poor communication, and... well, you get the point. Earlier this month, Microsoft announced that it would be closing the content production studios that were initially meant to provide key differentiating content for Xbox One, leading some to wonder if the Halo project was part... It's a bit of a bummer that Halo 5: Guardians isn't set to release until sometime next year, but on the bright side, some semi-new content is coming soon. In Microsoft's continuing effort to milk the popular franchise -- and rightfully so, we might add -- the Redmond outfit announced that it will be shipping Halo: The Master Chief Collection in time to celebrate Halo 2's 10-year anniversary on November 11, 2014. The package will include Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 4 all crammed onto a single disc with a $59.99 MSRP. However, this isn't just a mere repackaging of previously released titles. Microsoft is planning to include several new bonus content and enhancements. For example,... Read more...
Sorry, Halo fans, but the likelihood of Halo 5 shipping sometime this year is looking pretty slim at the moment. The Master Chief himself -- or more precisely, Steve Downes, the voice of Master Chief -- dropped the bombshell during a recent interview, a move that attracted the attention of Microsoft (and the Internet at large), which is essentially claiming Downes misspoke. Let's back up a moment. In the original interview with GameZone, Downes was asked where Halo 5 resides in the development and how much of the game has been voiced at this point. "I think you may be ahead of yourself on Halo 5. I wouldn't expect anything until 2015. What you can look forward to this year is an anniversary edition... Read more...
