Just when we were ribbing Microsoft for taking its sweet time to release a new build of Windows 10 Mobile, the company responds today with a fresh build. We can’t say that we’re surprised, considering that Microsoft’s Gabe Aul tweeted yesterday, “We have a build that is looking good (in the 105xx range) to share very soon, but it won't be today.” Little did we know that “very soon” actually meant tomorrow. And here we are, starting at Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 10512. It has just hit the Fast ring for testers, which means that Slow ring testers that have been without an update for well over a month will just have to wait even longer to see a new build delivered to their smartphones.... When Microsoft’s Gabe Aul put up a blog attempting to clarify some of the licensing requirements around Windows 10, all it did was inflame the matter and send the Internet into a tizzy. While most of us that read Aul’s blog posting surmised that Windows Insiders that linked their Microsoft Account (MSA) would receive Windows 10 for free without needing a valid Windows 7 or Windows 8 license, Aul indicates that this isn’t entirely accurate. We already knew that Windows 10 would be available as a free upgrade to existing Windows 7 or Windows 8 users with a valid license. The only other stipulation is that in order to receive the Windows 10 upgrade for free, you have to download the operating system from Microsoft by July 29, 2016 — marking exactly one year from the retail release of the operating system. However, we’ve learned today that there is another way to get Windows 10 for free — and you don’t have to be a current owner of Windows 7 or Windows 8 to take advantage of the offer.
