The Xbox One experience is about to get even better, especially if you're heavy into Achievements. Microsoft's Major Nelson revealed at E3 that his company is getting ready to roll out an update for its next generation console in July, though some folks will receive the update over the course of the next few days. What can you expect? For one, a new Snap Mode for Achievements. This is essentially a much easier way to track and view your Achievements, as you can view your progress in real-time without having to leave whatever game you're playing. Ah, do you smell that? It's coming from Nintendo's direction and it's either the scent of brilliance or desperation, we're not quite sure yet. Faced with disappointing Wii U console sales and having to compete with Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One consoles, Nintendo has to try something different to remain relevant -- that something different is called "amiibo." What is amiibo, you ask? It's Nintendo's foray into the "toy-to-life" category with collectible figures, or amiibos, that interact with the Wii U and its games. We've known for several days that EA would unveil a new chapter in the Battlefield universe at E3 2014, but the company has done more than that -- it also launched a surprise beta test for the upcoming Battlefield Hardline. The new game will be an urban cops-and-robbers shootout that drops players into the boots of either side in a more limited form of combat that's likely to focus on closer quarters and tighter objectives than the BF4 maps, some of which are sprawling affairs. The big surprise of E3 was that EA is launching a new closed beta program for PS4 and PC players that you can register for immediately.
