There's almost nothing hotter than a screamin' fast desktop replacement notebook.  Sure, these machines aren't notebooks in the traditional sense of the word.  If you really plan to take them on the road, you better not have been cheatin' on your sit-ups, sonny-boy.  These types of notebooks are for real men, or women, as the case may be.  That said, even among desktop replacement notebooks, where the specs are strong and the benchmarks run scared, there are builds that really separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak.  The machine you see below here is definitely one of those.  In fact, it could be argued that what you're about to drool over could very well... In terms of technology, DirectX 11 isn't the API defining, behind-the-scenes reboot that DirectX 10 was. It's an incremental update, much in the same way that Windows 7 is an update of Vista. At the end of the day, DirectX 11 is basically just DirectX 10 with a bunch of new features stuck on. However, we'd speculate that DirectX 11 should have a much larger impact on the end-user experience than DirectX 10 did because it brings several new features to the table that will make creating advanced graphical effects seldom seen in past games, much easier. Touted as one of the biggest milestones in Windows games development in recent years, DirectX 10 ultimately didn't live up to the hype as far as end-users were concerned. A large part of the disappointment was perhaps due to a misunderstanding of what DirectX 10 was supposed to be. DirectX 10 was a fundamental refresh of the entire API and it brought a much-needed reboot to an aging API model. The reboot removed a lot of the legacy clutter left over from over a decade of previous DirectX developments. DirectX 10 was never really about the end users at all, it was really about the developers. The various boards available during the 'first wave' of Radeon HD 5800 series availability shipped with different accessory bundles and usually had custom decals affixed to their fans and fan shrouds to help differentiate them from one another. But plug them into a slot, install the drivers and they all performed at exactly the same level. AMD's Radeon 5970 dual-GPU video card is the fastest consumer graphics card available, but Asus is cooking up a customized monster that steps things up a notch. Codenamed Ares, this 'true' dual-5870 solution is point to leave everything else on the market in the dust.AMD's current 5970 GPU carries the same number of stream processors and memory as a standard 5870 but runs its core and memory 15 percent and 20 percent slower. We just saw a very interesting, very specific post go up on the official NVIDIA Facebook page. It appears the company's highly anticipated, initial line-up of GF100 based graphics cards will be launching on March 26, 2010. The PC Demo for Codemaster's upcoming DirectX 11 racing title Dirt 2 has just hit the web and is available for download right here. If you're unfamiliar with Dirt 2, Codemaster's says this about the game, "DiRT 2 will feature a roster of contemporary off-road events, taking players to the most diverse and challenging real-world environments. A little less than a month ago, AMD unveiled the ATI Radeon HD 5800 series of graphics cards to much fanfare. And for good reason.
