The holiday season for video games has had a rough time. With games such as Assassin’s Creed: Unity getting poor reviews and Halo: The Master Chief Collection suffering from matchmaking issues, it’s not shaping up very well. However, Dragon Age: Inquisition, which hasn’t been released yet, is turning that around with its positive scores from critics and their early reviews. The Guardian gave BioWare’s latest entry into the Dragon Age franchise 4 out of 5 stars with Ian Ford calling it a “truly monumental game” though the overall threat and villain “never truly cohere into something memorable.” Meanwhile, Polygon’s Philip Kollar gave it a 9.5,... Sometimes we have to remind ourselves here at HotHardware that us editors and our loyal readers do not necessarily represent typical Internet users. Many of us consider ourselves to be "power users," and feel we know how to leverage the available tools to find exactly what we are looking for online. Which is why it came as a surprise to us to learn that on average, "the percentage of internet users who use search engines on a typical day... [is] just under one-half (49%)." This revelation comes from a recent survey conduced by the Pew Internet & American Life Project. We were under the (mistaken) impression that search engines were such an integral pat of online life that nearly anyone who... Read more...
In somewhat of a coup for them, Hulu, the joint venture between NBC Universal and News Corp., has landed a few more shows for their burgeoning video vault, including both The Colbert Report and The Daily Show from Comedy Central. We had to check and make sure the press release wasn't a joke, but there are indeed full episodes from both programs available. It comes as somewhat of a surprise, considering Comedy Central parent company Viacom has not signed on to Hulu, which launched as a joint venture between NBC Universal and News Corp. and does not yet have any other major networks on board. But on the other hand, MTV Networks, the Viacom division that encompasses Comedy Central, has made more distribution... The Inquirer is reporting that the refresh to NVIDIA's G80 GPU (GeForce 8 Series), which is probably code-named G81 if history is an indicator, will be manufactured on TSMC's 65nm process node. "THE G80 replacement looks like it might be known as G81, and it appears that Nvidia will take the radical step of making it at 65 nanometre. That is what's been rumoured in China and Taiwan and according to sources close to or inside TSMC." Whether the refresh to G80 is built at 65nm or 80nm, one thing is for certain.  NVIDIA wants to shrink to the G80 down ASAP.... Read more...
