Over the next few months, Intel will be releasing an array of new high-end desktop processors in the recently-announced Core X Series, based on the Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X micro-architectures. The first chips in the series to arrive in the lab are the 10-core Core i9-7900X and quad-core Core i7-7740X. We’ve got an array of benchmarks and overclocking data on tap with the processors, but due to some unexpected shipping issues, we weren't able to complete all of the test we would have liked. Rest assured, we’ll update this piece as soon as we can with a full set of numbers -- it will just take... Read more...
Intel officially rolled out its brand new Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X processors earlier this week as part of its Core-X family. Processors range from the “lowly” $242 Core i5-7640X to the monster Core i9-7980XE, which is priced at $1,999. Right smack dab in the middle of the lineup is the Core i9-7900X, which has a base clock of 3.3GHz, Turbo Boost 2.0 clock of 4.3GHz and Turbo Boost Max 3.0 clock of 4.5GHz. However, extreme enthusiasts are not content with mere stock speeds, which is why we are happy to report that the Core i9-7900X has already been overclocked to insane speeds, and is shattering... We are getting close to the launch of Intel's next generation of High-End Desktop (HEDT) processors, namely Kaby Lake-X and Skylake-X, the latter of which will carry new Core i9 branding. Intel has shared scant information about its forthcoming processors, though as usual the Internet community at large has picked up the slack. In this case, a benchmarking database has seemingly revealed new details about one of Intel's Core i9 chips. That chip in question is the Core i9-7900X. Previous leaks pegged this Skylake-X part as having 10 cores and 20 threads clocked at 3.3GHz, with the ability to reach... Read more...
