Alcatel has a new Android Go device that is coming to the U.S. for people who don’t like to spend lots of cash on a smartphone. The big thing about the Alcatel 1X isn’t the performance or the specs, it's the bargain basement price tag. The 1X will sell for $100, making it perfect for those who are rough on phones and break them frequently, folks looking for a cheap device off contract, or parents looking for a first smartphone for kids. The Alcatel 1X packs a 5.3-inch screen with a meager 480 x 960 resolution and runs a MediaTek MT6739 chipset. That chipset has a quad-core CPU that runs at 1.3GHz and uses a PowerVR GE8100 GPU. It only has 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, but... Read more...
Earlier this month, T-Mobile jumped the gun with a product listing for the new Alcatel Idol 4S Windows 10 Mobile smartphone. Today, however, T-Mobile and Microsoft officially announced the flagship device, which launched earlier this year with Android 6.0 Marshmallow preinstalled. As we reported previously, the Alcatel Idol 4S is no slouch in the specs department, bringing with it a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, microSD slot with support for up to 128GB, 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display, 20MP primary camera with Sony IMX230 sensor, 8MP selfie camera with a wide-angle lens, dual multi-directional speakers, a USB-C charging port, fingerprint sensor and a 3000 mAh battery... Microsoft may seemingly be winding down its commitment to Windows 10 Mobile-based hardware, but its partners definitely haven’t given up. Earlier this month, Hewlett-Packard debuted the Elite X3 for $799 (Microsoft even used the smartphone in demo on stage during its Windows 10 Creators Edition keynote instead of its own Lumia 950 XL), and now we’ve learned that T-Mobile is stepping into the fray. T-Mobile will soon begin selling the Alcatel Idol 4S with Windows 10 Mobile preinstalled. The Idol 4S was previously only available from T-Mobile running Google’s Android operating system. In case you need a refresher, the Idol 4S comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB RAM, 5.5-inch... Read more...
We were under the impression that the Alcatel’s latest foray into the Windows 10 Mobile market would arrive last month, but it simply wasn’t meant to be. Thankfully, those that were looking forward to the budget smartphone didn’t have long to wait — the OneTouch Fierce XL is now available direct from T-Mobile. The OneTouch Fierce XL is unlikely to get your pulse racing if you’re into fast, feature-packed smartphones. Alcatel’s Windows 10 Mobile is strictly for the low-end of the smartphone market as witnessed by the following specs: 1.1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 with 2GB RAM 16GB onboard storage microSD expansion up to 32GB 5.5-inch 720p display 8MP rear camera 2MP selfie camera 2500mAh battery... As we closed out 2015, we brought you news that T-Mobile was willing to give Windows 10 Mobile a chance even though Microsoft didn’t extend an olive branch by offering it the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL flagships. Unfortunately for those hoping that T-Mobile would bring a flagship-class Windows 10 Mobile smartphone to the table, the third-place wireless carrier is instead going with a budget device from Alcatel. As we reported last week, the OneTouch Fierce XL likely won’t win over any T-Mobile customers that had their hearts set on a Lumia 950, but its off-contract pricing is likely to be very compelling (the Android version of the smartphone is available on MetroPCS for $70 after rebate). The... Read more...
If you're not wanting to pledge allegiance to either Android or iOS in the smartwatch sector, you might be interested in Alcatel's OneTouch, a cross-platform wearable that's now available to pre-order in the U.S. for $149.99 on the company's website. It's the same one that was first showed off at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this year and is slated to ship on June 1, 2015. The OneTouch sports a 1.22-inch touchscreen display with a 240x204 resolution. It's wrapped in a silver circular casing and has a black patterned band with a metal clip, at least for the model that's available to pre-order (presumably there will be other options down the road). Subjectively speaking, it's fairly... Read more...
Many would associate the Alcatel name with telecommunications, but few would guess that the company has just launched a smartphone in the United States. But sure enough, it has. The Alcatel One Touch was just released this week, boasting a 4.7" panel, support for GSM networks, and a wildly cheap price tag. It'll sell for just $299, and that's fully unlocked; most higher-end phones retail for well over $500 in off-contract, unlocked form. The One Touch weighs just 3.88oz., and offers up scratch-resistant glass, anti-virus software and all-over splash-proof water protection. There's also 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, an 8MP camera, a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, and Android 4.1. Sure, it's no... Read more...
