Windows 10 Creators Update Nears Finish Line With Insider Preview Build 15055

Microsoft continues to release new Windows 10 preview builds to Insiders at a steady clip, the newest of which is build 15055 for both PC and mobile. As we approach the release of the forthcoming Creators Update, these preview builds bring less to the table in terms of major new features and upgrades, and are more focused on crushing bugs and tidying things up. That is the case with build 15055.

The latest preview build is available to Insiders subscribed to the Fast ring. It introduces a bevy of fixes, one of which makes the update play nicer with systems running antivirus software from Symantec. Anyone who has Norton installed should no longer get a 0x80070228 error when attempting to download the build. Microsoft says Symantec released an update last week that is supposed to fix the issue.

"Please make sure your Symantec/Norton antivirus software has the most up-to-date antivirus definitions BEFORE trying to install today's build," Microsoft said.

Users had also been having trouble with Windows 10 preview builds stalling out at 71 percent and rolling back to the previous build. That issue is addressed in build 15055 as well.

In total there are over two dozen fixes for Windows 10 PCs, plus three more mobile. They range in severity and include everything from stopping OneDrive from unexpectedly causing CPU usage to spike at a high percentage for a long time, to GUI quirks such as the tab mouse-over description tooltips in Microsoft Edge saying on the screen after closing the relevant tab.

There is still work for Microsoft to do before the Creators Update rolls out to the masses next month. Despite all the fixes introduces in this latest build, Microsoft notes another 10 known issues for Windows 10 PCs and four for mobile.
