Verizon Visible Unlimited Prepaid Service Ditches 5 Mbps Speed Limit

People got excited about the Verizon Wireless prepaid mobile service called Visible when it launched in May of last year. The service offered unlimited everything for $40 monthly. The catch was that the service limited you to 5 Mbps download speeds and 480p video playback. Visible has now removed the download speed cap making it much more appealing to users who want affordable and fast service.

There is a catch to the new unlimited speed cap offer, it's only available for a limited time. We don't know how limited because Visible isn't forthcoming with that information. The carrier said, "Why a limited time? Since we launched, our members have shared that the offering we've put together has served their everyday needs. We have also received speed-specific questions and feedback from potential members, so we're taking this opportunity to provide a truly unlimited experience to everyone - both current members and those who sign up now - to test out Visible for themselves."

While visible does support tethering to your laptop or tablet when needed, the speed while tethering is still capped at 5Mbps. To keep those who signed up in the past happy and with Visible since there is no contract keeping users locked in, Visible will give existing customers the uncapped connection. Any Verizon compatible smartphone will work on Visible.

If you don't have a Verizon compatible device, Visible is offering the Moto G7 Power and the Pixel 3a smartphone in the coming weeks. Existing members that want to get the new speeds only need to restart their smartphone. Visible does note that insight that it gleans from the limited time unlimited plan will be used in a "bigger program." The Visible service launched in January of 2019 for Android devices; Support for Pixel 3 and Pixel XL was added recently.
