Velocity Micro Introduces 7", 8" and 10" Cruz Tablets At CES

We knew CES would be loaded with tablets, and that foreshadowing has proven correct so far. They're definitely a major part of this year's show, and Velocity Micro is bringing not just one, but three total tablets to the show. There's a 7", 8" and 10" version, all of which are expected to ship in late Q1 2011. All three are joining the Cruz family, and they'll ship with either Android 2.2 or Android 2.3 depending on which is available at the time of launch.


The 7" model (Cruz Tablet L37) has a 1024 x 600 capacitive touch screen, and is roughly the same size as Samsung's Galaxy Tab. There's 802.11n Wi-Fi, 4GB of internal storage, a 3G data option, front and rear-facing cameras, GPS/compass, micro HDMI output and Bluetooth 2.1. Also, the Kindle app will come pre-loaded. The 8" Cruz Table P38 has a 1024 x 768 resolution display, and most of the same specifications otherwise. The giant of the bunch is the 101." Cruz Tablet L510, which has a 1366 x 768 screen resolution, a 1GHz dual-core CPU, NVIDIA's Tegra 250, front and rear cameras and optional 3G. No pricing details were given, sadly, but it's clear that the Android tablet market is going to be extremely crowded by mid-year. The real question is this: can the Android 2.3/2.2 tablets stand a chance against the incoming Honeycomb (v3.0) tablets?
