Twitter Co-Founder Jack Dorsey Aspires To Run For Mayor of New York

Considering his resume, Jack Dorsey keeps a rather low profile. If you can’t place his name here’s a reminder: Dorsey is the co-founder of Twitter, and more recently he founded mobile payment startup Square, which is designed to make it easier for small business owners to accept payments with iOS devices. Eventually, Dorsey wants to add a bigger, badder line to his resume: Mayor of New York City.

Dorsey has suggested in the past that a mayoral run in the Big Apple would be something he’s interested in, and he reportedly even bent current mayor Michael Bloomberg’s ear about it. According to Business Insider, Dorsey just told a “60 Minutes” interviewer that he’s serious about running for mayor someday. He doesn’t have a timeline per se, but it’s apparently something he’s serious about.

It’s an entertaining thought: A tech mogul as mayor of New York? Such a person would certainly bring an interesting perspective on problem-solving and understanding how people work, play, and communicate.

However, becoming the mayor of New York is not the same as snagging the same office in some small town; that office has a great deal of clout, and it’s an especially public position. Dorsey no doubt by now has the bankroll to make a bid, so perhaps he’s just waiting until the time is right.
