Toshiba Launches Updated Windows Touchscreen Laptops, Detachables and Tablets

When it rains, it pours. Toshiba took the wraps off half a dozen refreshed and new mobile devices today, including convertible and detachable laptops, Windows tablets, and a bargain-basement Android tablet. The laptops will start dropping in June, followed by the tablets in July, in plenty of time for students gearing up for fall classes.

Arriving in June are the Satellite Radius and Satellite Click 2 Pro laptops, both of which have touchscreens and run Windows. As a convertible, the Radius can be used as a laptop or folded back for a tablet-like experience. It has a 1920 x 1080 resolution display and some enticing components, including (up to) a Core-i7 processor and 8GB of RAM, as well as a terabyte of storage. The Radius starts at $925.99 and will be only at Best Buy and Toshiba.com/us.

The Click 2, on the other hand, is a detachable. Pull the 13.3-inch, 1920 x 1080 display off the keyboard, and you have a tablet that runs Windows on an Intel Pentium processor. It may not have much memory (4GB) or much storage (500GB), but the price tag is an attractive $586.99. Go with the Pro version of the Click 2, and you’re looking some more exciting features, including a 128GB SSD, complemented by a 500GB hard drive that’s tucked into the keyboard. That device is expected to run $1,028.99 and, like the Radius, will be available only at Best Buy and Toshiba.com/us.

In early July, Toshiba’s refreshed tablets will hit store shelves. The Windows 8.1 Encore 2 tablets will be available in 8-inch and 10-inch flavors, and both will have 1280 x 800 displays, as well as 64GB of internal storage and a Micro SD slot for expansion. The 10-inch version, which will be available for $50 more than the 8-inch model at $249.99, also has a Micro HDMI port.

Toshiba also has an update for Android fans. The Excite Go picks up where the earlier Excite left off, with an MSRP of just $109.99 and a quad-core Intel Atom processor. The 7-inch display has a resolution of 1024 x 600, and the tablet weighs in at just 12.5 ounces. It may not be a powerhouse, but the Excite Go has a couple nice touches (Micro USB and Micro SD ports, for example) and 6.5 hours of battery life while watching video, according to Toshiba. That’ll get you through a flight.
